How To Make A Website For Beginners:
Here are some basic steps to create your website:
1-Choose a domain name
2- Choose a hosting provider
4- Create content
What Is A Domain Name
Domain names are a way for people to understand where the website is. They use them with “.” to tell the browser what they need, like .com or .edu. In other words, when you enter an Internet domain name into your web browser, it will take you to a website.
Domain names are unique in that they can be owned in common by individuals, businesses, organizations, and even governments. The domain names themselves do not have to be registered with any type of authority – anyone can register one for themselves.
The owner of the domain is responsible for maintaining the DNS records that point to the hosting provider for their domain. These DNS records are then managed through a user interface provided by the registrar and automatically updated when changes are made.
How To Buy A Domain Name
If you want to buy a domain name called “mydomain.com”, and if it has not already been registered and is available, then the process is relatively simple:
- Go to the website where you want to buy your new domain.
- Search for “mydomain.com” in their search bar.
- Click on “Available Domain Name” or “Register Domain Name”.
- Then follow the process of buying your new domain.
If your desired domain is not available, but you still want it, then you must find out who owns the domain first.
- Go to the website where you want to buy your new domain from
- Search for “mydomain.com” in their search bar
- Click on “Contact Registrant” or “Whois Lookup”, for details on who currently owns your desired domain, and contact them via email.
How To Choose A Domain Name
Choosing a good domain name is the most important step in starting an online business. A catchy, relevant, and easy-to-remember domain will help you get your website to Google’s first page.
When coming up with a choice for your domain name, consider that it has to be functional, informative, and also memorable.
Although there are no rules for what makes a good name if it can work as a meme or catchphrase, make sure you capitalize on it. Your product/service should be named in such a way that anyone who hears about it will instantly recognize its value.
Your brand must have one strong message that people can easily understand when they see your logo or read your tagline. That’s why it’s important to come up with a relevant title that is easy to spell and sounds good.
Since a domain name is a long-term investment that must last throughout the entire span of your project or company, it is vital that it perfectly reflects what you have set out to communicate.
With such importance, here are some precautions you should take when choosing a domain name:
– Keep it simple: the simpler, the better.
Avoid adding words that do not contribute to the meaning of your project: you want people to remember and identify your website or blog easily and quickly once they see it. Excessive capitalization is also discouraged since it can be hard to read and unprofessional.
– Use keywords.
Using a combination of different words with an esthetic value will help boost your search engine optimization (SEO).
Moreover, customers might find you more easily on search engines if your domain name contains essential information about what you offer.
Since many of your clients will be from outside your country, it is important to choose a name that can be understood by the majority.
– Think about future developments:
If you plan on expanding and moving into different markets, you may want to consider whether or not your domain name would be able to accommodate these changes.
– Register other versions:
For your main domain name, it might make sense to also register all the common misspellings and combinations people might use (e.g. keepass.fr, keepass.org, keepass.info).
Domain Name Extensions And What They Mean
A domain name or simply “domain” is the address for your website that you type into the browser’s address bar. The domain consists of different parts and ends with a top-level domain (TLD).
Understanding TLDs: TLDs are your website’s identity, such as .com, .de, .net, .org and many more.
You can also choose to have a country-specific domain name such as the United Kingdom (.uk), Germany (.de), or Japan (.jp).
The TLD is an integral part of your website’s identity and all TLDs are unique identifiers on the internet. Here are some of them:
What is a gTLD?
A generic top-level domain (gTLD) can be used for any purpose according to the guidelines of the responsible registry. An example is .com, which you have certainly come across already. There are other examples such as .edu or .jobs. These domains must not be confused with country-specific domains such as .uk or .de.
What is a country-specific domain?
Every country has its own top-level domain. These are called country-code top-level domains (ccTLD). An example is .de, which is the top-level domain for Germany. This means that a website with the .de domain name must be hosted in or at least be associated with Germany.
What is a Sponsored TLD?
Sponsored Top Level Domains (sTLD) are domain names that have been approved but are not expected to be used by many people. They do not have specific restrictions and can be used for general purposes such as ‘.book’.
Sponsored TLDs are meant to provide an option for companies and individuals to establish a unique identity online. However, most of them so far do not offer any specific geographical or functional restrictions.
Sponsored TLDs include: .art, .bike, .clothing, .guru, .holdings, .plumbing, .singles and many more.
What is a Subdomain?
A subdomain is an additional section of your domain name which is usually preceded by a dot. This is comparable to a folder on your computer, which can contain files. Subdomains allow you to have different websites on the same domain name.
An example for a subdomain is yourwebsite.example.com as opposed to simply example.com which is referred to as the root domain.
A major difference between subdomains and domains is that subdomains cannot be registered for themselves and should always belong to a pre-existing domain.
Where To Buy A Domain Name
If you want your domain name and hosting on different platforms then The best place to buy a domain name is Namecheap.com.
It is cheap and you can also get discounts when you buy in bulk. It has a good collection of features like domain forwarding, DNS management, and Google Apps for your business email addresses.
If you however want to buy hosting and domain names from the same place then Bluehost.com would be your best option.
It follows a pay-as-you-go model which means they charge on a month-by-month basis starting from just $2.95 /month for hosting and a similar price range for domains with an additional discount if you choose their year-long billing plans.
Since we’ll create our site on Bluehost so we don’t have to buy a domain name separately. We’ll get a free domain name with their hosting package.
However, there are many other places where you can get a domain name registered such as Godaddy, Network Solutions & Yahoo Small Business, etc but it is always better to keep a watch on their yearly billing plans.
What Is Web Hosting
Today, most people will use the Internet to connect to the World Wide Web. But how does this actually work?
It is important to keep in mind that you wouldn’t be able to read this right now without a hosting service.
Web Hosting is a service designed specifically for individuals or companies who wish to publish content on the web. This enables you to create and maintain your own website, blog, email accounts, and so forth.
Essentially, the hosting provider that hosts your website is allocating storage space on their servers to hold your data. They are also providing bandwidth (data transfer) for this storage space.
This means they are storing your web pages, images, videos, and other content on their server so users can browse through it. They are also making sure that your website is accessible for other users.
How Does Web Hosting Work
It might seem like uploading your site should be easy, considering how much effort goes into creating it.
But even though you don’t need any knowledge of computers to use this service there are still many things that your web host can do for you. Here’s an overview of the process:
1) You buy hosting from a company/web host provider
2) The host will set up an account for you which will include simple software called a Control Panel
3) Using this Control Panel, you simply upload your web pages through FTP (file transfer protocol) but we have WordPress for this so no need to know any technical stuff.
4) The host handles sending all this information out to the web (either through your domain name or subdomain)
5) You can then test all of this by typing in your URL into a browser window on any device, like your laptop or phone.
Types Of Web Hosting
There are several different types of hosting. Here’s an overview of some:
1) Shared Hosting:
This type of hosting is also called a virtual or partitioned server. In this, a single server is being shared between multiple websites with the help of partitions. It means that multiple customers have their own space on a single web server.
Shared hosting is the oldest method used by many companies to host their online website with a huge number of benefits and drawbacks attached to them.
When you are using shared hosting, you can run unlimited domains from your single account but each site will be sharing resources from the same machine instead of having its own dedicated resources.
A VPS is a virtual private server in which you are assigned a certain amount of the server’s resources for your exclusive use.
VPS is short for Virtual Private Server, which implies breaking up one physical server into multiple smaller logical servers. A VPS is the virtualization of a physical server, converting it into multiple VPSs.
The main difference between a VPS and a shared hosting plan is that instead of sharing one server with many other users, you have your own section of the machine to manage.
This allows for much more freedom in what you can do with your site, but it does mean greater responsibility since if something happens to your particular portion of the hard drive, it will not affect anyone else on the same machine.
3)Dedicated server hosting:
A dedicated server sometimes called a virtual private server, is when you are given your own physical server that has been partitioned off from other users on the same machine. You have full control of your dedicated machine and can customize it to suit your needs.
Cloud web hosting is a method of web hosting that uses the resources of multiple machines in order to provide scalable and redundant Internet hosting capabilities.
By using cloud computing, users can quickly and easily add more servers in order to increase their disk space and bandwidth limits in just seconds.
In addition, most cloud web hosting services offer an easy-to-use control panel to configure and manage the virtual servers in a user’s account.
In this regard, users are able to add additional resources when needed without contacting technical support or even requiring knowledge of server administration.
Cloud web hosting is often more flexible than traditional hosting but can be slightly more expensive.
5) Managed Hosting:
As a managed hosting service, web hosting services take care of all maintenance and management services required to keep your site running.
They have a team of dedicated technicians who work around the clock to ensure continuity in serving your web presence.
Their systems are monitored 24/7 so that they can fix any errors experienced by users immediately.
Their highly trained staff also ensures that clients’ sites run smoothly even when traffic spikes occur.
In addition, they offer high-end equipment for easy plug-and-play installation for your server, network, storage devices, and other related hardware.
Your servers will be installed at their data center facilities where you get to enjoy lightning-fast internet speed without bandwidth restrictions.
6) Reseller Hosting:
Reseller hosting is a type of web hosting that provides the user with the ability to create accounts on their server.
The reseller can then sell access to those accounts, usually in the form of packages containing disk space, monthly data transfers, email addresses, and other features related to account activity.
Using this model allows website owners to make money with very little overhead, and gives them the chance to offer their customers unique packages that they would not be able to create on their own.
Reseller hosting allows website owners to take advantage of features that are usually only available in dedicated server plans. These include root access, dedicated IP addresses, unlimited domains, databases, and sub-accounts.
7) Colocation web hosting:
Colocation hosting is a service where a third party offers space, power, and network connectivity to an individual client’s server.
A colocation provider will offer services in either cage or rack form factors.
Cages are self-contained cabinets within the data center that contain one or more servers with all necessary network connections.
Racks are cabinets that house servers on a raised floor, where cabling between cabinets and outside networks is run in cable trays.
In either case, the client purchases an empty enclosure from the provider and installs their own equipment there. This allows the control of what happens with that equipment.
The client can perform maintenance or upgrades whenever necessary without calling for assistance from the provider. [In a Hosted scenario, there would be a team of technicians that would need to be called in for any maintenance or upgrade.]
How To Choose A Web Hosting Provider
Before you choose where to host your website, there are a few things you should know. Most importantly, do not put all of your hosting eggs in one basket.
This means that you should not have all of your websites housed with just one web host if they go down or get hacked or simply shut down unexpectedly. If this happens, then you will lose all of your websites and potentially a lot of money.
If you want to ensure that all of your websites stay safe, then it is best to use multiple web hosting providers or even host them yourself (if you know how).
Each web hosting company has its own pros and cons, so it’s important to choose the one that best fits your needs.
Here are some things you should keep in mind while searching for the perfect host:
When trying to find a good web hosting company, it is important to think about what specific genre of the website you need your host to be able to support.
For example, smaller sites that do not get that much traffic do not really need hefty amounts of storage and memory. This means that you should only pay for the features that your website needs to operate, which will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Another thing to consider is how much bandwidth your site will require on a monthly basis because some sites have no visitors at all while others get tons of traffic every day. Some hosts, like Bluehost, offer unlimited bandwidth for a monthly fee. However, if you don’t receive a lot of traffic this may not be worth the extra cost.
If your site is going to have a lot of images and videos, then it might also require more storage space. Some cloud hosting providers will give you unlimited space, while other providers limit how much space you can use.
If you need a lot of storage space, then it may be best to opt for one of these companies that offer more room because they are generally better equipped to handle large media files.
Making sure that the company seems reputable is also very important.
If your host goes down for any reason, including technical issues or other problems, then your site could go down with it.
Some hosts, like SiteGround, are well-known and reputable companies that have great customer service and technical support if anything goes wrong. They also make sure their servers are always up to date so there is less risk of encountering an error.
If you want to make sure your website is 100 percent safe, then you should host your site with a cloud hosting provider because they have redundant servers.
This means that if one of the servers goes down for any reason, the backup server will automatically kick in so it never experiences downtime.
Cloud hosting providers are also built around security which can protect your data from being hacked.
If you are looking for a web hosting provider that offers different types of hosting options, then it may be best to choose one that allows you to choose between cloud, virtual private server, or dedicated servers.
The type of server your site is housed in can affect the performance and loading speed of your website so make sure to do your research before choosing a server. A lot of providers offer an array of options so you can find the one that is best for your site.
Finding the right web hosting company can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be a difficult process if you know what features to look for and how much money you are willing to spend.
Remember to think about how much storage, bandwidth, and memory you need before choosing a company.
Also, keep in mind that security is very important so it’s best to find a company that offers cloud hosting or virtual private servers.
Now that you have the basics of how to choose a web hosting provider, get out there and pick one today! Once you have your website installed, it’s time to get started with creating your website using WordPress.
